Abstract – The Movie Industry
The movie industry worldwide is
estimated to be worth more than $37.4 billion and this number is increasing
drastically with time. The industry witnesses a large number of technological
innovations and trends keep changing at a very fast rate. Gone are the days of
celluloid and enormous contraptions used for filming. Innovations and
inventions made in both the hardware and the software involved in movie making
have changed the way movies are being recorded, edited, transformed and
rendered. Film formats have evolved from 90 mm negative gauges to 35 mm
negative gauges over the years. Editing softwares like Media Composer and Sony
Vegas Pro used today provide tremendous flexibility and convenience in the
movie making process. The introduction of computer graphics prompted a shift
from conventional movies. Animation is now being used extensively and the
number of animated movies is on the rise. Pixar, one of the leading and most
well-known animation studios has created a number of box-office hits. 3-D
modelling softwares like Carrara, 3D Studio Max and Hexagon are used in both
animated and real-life motion pictures. High competition forces the movie
houses to constantly innovate and sometimes even create their own technology.
